Whale Watching in Isla de Coiba

One of the most notable migratory species in Coiba National Park is the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae). These majestic creatures undertake one of the longest migrations of any mammal, traveling between their feeding grounds in the polar waters and their breeding grounds in warmer tropical regions.

Each year, humpback whales migrate from the Southern Hemisphere to the waters around Coiba Island between July and October. During this period, the park becomes a vital calving and breeding ground, as the warm, shallow waters provide an ideal environment for newborn calves.
